RIM suffers worst Nasdaq drop in eight years

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

Research In Motion seem to be having a bad time of it lately as the maker of the BlackBerry smartphone has dropped the most in almost eight years in Nasdaq trading due to the competition from the Apple iPhone 3G curbing its profit forecast for the second quarter in a row.

Analyst with Toronto based Canaccord, Peter Misek, says: “the gross margin is a nightmare, we certainly didn’t expect that.”

Research In Motion has said earnings will be 0.89 cents to 0.97 cents a share in the third quarter, this is due to costs of building further advanced mobile phones and selling them at lower prices.

The Tahiti Margaritaville Frozen Drink Machine

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

Well it’s finally Friday, so you might as well start planning how you want to spend your evening. Be it alone in peace or having a bunch of friends over this Tahiti Maragaritaville Frozen Drink Machine could come in handy to help you unwind. It doesn’t just create something in one large container either, instead you get 3 hefty sized mugs filled. It has six different preprogrammed drinks, so you won’t have to guess how much of everything to put in. Which would come in handy when you’ve had too many margaritas.

It can also create healthy smoothies for the next morning, if you need something like that to bounce back from your night of alcohol. It also has a rotating ice hopper that puts shaved ice into each of the mixing jars. Each of those mixing jars are 24oz. The big down side is that this is a little bit expensive, since it is such a nice machine. It will end up costing you $599.

T-Mobile impose 3GB cap on Android G1 in the UK

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

Now here?s an interesting bit of news for all prospective UK Android buyers; apparently T-Mobile will be placing a 3GB cap on monthly data downloads with the G1 mobile phone when it launches in the UK come November.

At the New York launch, T-Mobile said there would be a 1GB cap in the US, and then is reduced to 50Kbits/sec, that?s roughly in line with the old time dial-up modem speeds.

T-Mob then lifted what they named the ?1GB soft limit? form their fair use policy, and didn?t say anything about it being replaced.

A London based T-Mobile spokesperson said about the 3GB limit: “If you exceed that you won’t be charged initially but if you continue the heavy usage you may get a charge from a T-Mobile representative suggesting that you upgrade your account.”

Haptic 2 from Samsung appears to be brick size?

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

The Haptic 2 mobile handset from Samsung looks to be one heavy large beast of a brick, but other than appearing to be overly large, Samsung?s latest full-screen mobile phone resembles its Korean twin the Samsung Omnia i900.

The Samsung Haptic 2 obviously is the follow up to the original Samsung Haptic, and features 4GB (SCH-W550 or SPH-W5500, about $600) or 16GB (SCH-W555, about $690) of storage, DMB television, improved 3.2 inch touch-screen, integrated mobile banking, and an updated TouchWiz UI.

Samsung has also beefed up the included widgets from the original 15 to a cool 50, and added user defined vibration tones. No word from Sammy yet on availability or price.

Guinness 250th anniversary marked at Irish pub

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

There is nothing quite like a pint of Guinness after a hard day’s labor, and it is not surprising to see that this dark beer retain its flavor a few centuries after Arthur Guinness brewed his perfect blend with little or no change over time. If you happen to love all things Guinness, take note that Neiman Marcus? Fantasy Gifts section is offering an Irish Pub sporting Irish artifacts for $250,000, ready to be installed in your home much to the chagrin of the missus. This tap system will offer a year’s supply of Guinness draught, but don’t you go holding parties every weekend or you will find yourself running dry within a couple of months. For 250 grand, you can also gain access to first-class accommodations during your trip to witness the pub in mid-construction.

This nifty USB gadget is yours for $14.

Simulator shots of BlackBerry Storm OS

by Techno Witch on September 26, 2008

A few screens of Research In Motion?s BlackBerry Storm 9500 have come to light that show off the navigation of RIM?s first touch-screen handset.

One would have thought Research In Motion would have come up with something special for the OS of this significant smartphone, but basically they?re kept it to much the same as previous BlackBerrys.

What will probably attract more is the 3.2 megapixel camera and the integrated Rhapsody music store, and pitches it against the Apple iPhone.

The other thing of note is the Vodafone branding which adds them to the carriers list of Verizon, Telus and Bell, as the Storm heads for a Christmas launch.
