LG and Samsung working on Android phones for late 2009

by Techno Witch on September 30, 2008

A report of what industry observers are saying about the new T-Mobile Android G1, has Telecoms Korea dropping a hint on when Android based phones could possibly be released from LG and Samsung.

Mirae Asset Securities Co., Ltd were sharing their company thoughts on the Google Android T-Mobile G1 mobile phone, and apparently said it was ?short of expectations,? and that LG and Samsung will be releasing their own versions of the Google phone ?in the second half of 2009 at the earliest.?

Having a release date for the second half of 09 would allow Samsung and LG ample time to tweak Android to make sure it runs smoothly on their handsets, but apparently one of the biggest hindrances to the gPhone is the scepticism among mobile advertisers who don?t hold enough faith in Android.

Telus and Bell blowing up a storm over the Storm

by Techno Witch on September 30, 2008

There appears to be a bit of a storm brewing over in Canada, a storm over the Storm between Canadian carriers Telus and Bell Mobility as they fight over Research In Motion?s latest crowning mobile handset.

Telus is said to have tried to lock the deal for the BlackBerry Storm as soon as it came out of the gate, but Bell Mobility jumped right in, upped the ante and has started off a bidding war for the BlackBerry Storm.

This is probably one Blackberry battle that isn?t going to be over very soon, Bell and Telus are sharpening the knives and the one with the sharpest blade will gain the BlackBerry Storm. Or of course they could both simply agree to both sell the damn thing; after all it is just another mobile phone, right?

The first ruggedised NSPA mobile phone including Mil Spec is the Motorola VA76r; a mobile handset that is shock proof, built to endure less than optimal treatment and water resistant.

The Motorola VA76r features, Quad-Band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and Tri-Band HSDPA (850/1900/2100 MHz) 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, Full HTML Web browsing, GPS, Mil Spec Attributes (Water resistance, humidity, drop, vibration and dust), and up to 4GB microSD.

Rogers Wireless has the Motorola VA76r for sale at $299.99 on a 1 year contract, $249.99 on a 2 year, and $199.99 on a 1 year, or if purchased without contract $359.00.

Deepfish browser on its way to Davie Jones locker

by Techno Witch on September 30, 2008

Microsoft Research projects have always been a tad difficult to follow, and Microsoft places a great deal of cash into their R&D. However Deepfish looks like a project that simply didn?t go anywhere, especially back in March of 07, and back then there were many browser initiatives especially the Apple iPhone.

“When Live Labs began working on Deepfish, we didn’t set out to create a new mobile browser. What we set out to do was to prove our theory that there was an unmet demand for a better mobile browsing experience than what was available at the time we started the project in 2006, and that a novel and simple new user experience was the best way to achieve that. The positive reception and incredible demand for the Deepfish technical preview went a long way towards proving that. And now, thanks in part to Deepfish, many better alternatives are emerging.”

What does Deepfish bring us? Not really sure, it was a proxy based solution that doesn?t really scale well to large user bases, however if you are RIM and selling a server solution it does. Anyone going to be sad to see the demise of Deepfish?

The Research In Motion BlackBerry Storm is causing some curiosity over at the CrackBerry forums as it appears one CrackBerry forums member, BBerry, has posted a few images of what appears to be a BlackBerry Storm.

Where BBerry got hold of the images I have no idea, but apparently BBerry and Father was at a Verizon store and chatting about upcoming Blackberry smartphones such as HTC?s Touch Diamond when the Verizon guy pulls out a dummy of a BlackBerry Thunder (Storm).

We don?t know which Verizon store has it, but BBerry says it is quiet a heavy phone, and in his words?? Oh and that push button screen thingy yeah its not as hard actually its pretty easy to press.?

Press shots of the LG KC780 8MP mobile phone

by Techno Witch on September 30, 2008

LG has officially confirmed their LG KC780 8 megapixel camera slider phone with a few press photos, although as yet have yet to release a spec sheet. But one thing we do know is the LG KC780 is the slimmest mobile handset to tote an 8 megapixel camera to date.

We got our first glimpse of the LG KC780 last week in a blurred shot, but with the release of these crystal clear images it gives us a good overview of what to expect, and as they say a picture speaks a thousand words, right?

One would expect the LG KC780 to be quad-band GSM and include some touch-screen functionality, along with probably 30 frames per second video recording; however at present this is only speculation.

The word is that the LG KC780 is in fact no slimmer than the LG Renoir, so I guess we?ll just have to wait and see.
