Find MY iPhone is a feature of iPhone OS 3.0 that requires a MobileMe account to operate and the service should work with both lost and stolen iPhones and iPod Touchs as there is an option which allows the owner to send a message on the handset or even erase all data.

To enable Find My iPhone you need to go to the Settings application which is hidden in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your MobileMe account and the Find My Device item is located at the bottom, and simply turn it on. For the full rundown follow the link.

iPhone 3.0 OS: How to enable tethering

by Techno Witch on June 18, 2009

iPhone OS 3.0 is out and with it comes tethering for the iPhone, so all you need now is how to enable said tethering, and 9to5Mac has fully detailed the process.

Apparently enabling tethering only take 60 seconds but you will be required to download and mount a carrier settings file first and then option click on Restore in iTunes and restore the iPhone from the mount disk image and you should see the massage ?Updating iPhone carrier settings.?

Once done hop to Settings ? General ? Network and the new setting for Internet Tethering should appear, simply tap it, slide Internet Tethering to On and bob?s your Uncle, job done.

Well it?s available, iPhone OS 3.0 is finally here, and by now probably most have downloaded the update and have been playing around with it for at least a few hours.

So what we would like to know is your thoughts on iPhone OS 3.0 update. Do you like it, dislike it? Did you experience problems getting iPhone OS 3.0, or was the process a breeze?

Now that you?ve had chance to play with the new OS is there anything you feel is missing or maybe there is something you would have liked to see added to iPhone OS 3.0. or hope will be in iPhone 4.0.

Whatever you think on iPhone OS 3.0 we would like to know, so drop us a comment with your thoughts.

James.

iPhone OS 3.0 has now gone live and itproportal is reporting that the prelude to the big launch of the iPhone 3G S is experiencing some issues which have stopped iPhone and iPod Touch users from updating to iPhone OS 3.0.

Appler servers were swamped at the multitude of download requests, and it has been reported that the iPhone 3.0 activation server crashed and MobileME service was also somewhat sluggish and even inaccessible at times.

Also Apple Singapore?s server was reportedly acting kind of weird. One iPhoner, Michael Samstag informed Cnet that iPhone OS 3.0 may have slightly damaged his iPhone as it has the ?connect to iTunes? message but will only allow emergency calls.

So how was iPhone OS 3.0 download day for you, did you experience any problems?

Apple has already promised to open their retail stores early on Friday and now appleinsider reports that Apple has stated all their available stores will sell the iPhone 3G S even earlier than is expected.

AT&T have a pre-order pick up time for the iPhone 3G S on launch day as 7AM, and so not to be outdone by AT&T, Apple has changed their scheduled opening time from 8AM to 7AM to match AT&T, however the difference with Apple is that they will sell the iPhone 3G S to on the spot buyers as well as those who have signed for service at home.

Other news from Apple is that only a week after launching Safari 4, Apple has issued a patch Safari 4.0.1 and this update fixes compatibility issues between Safari 4 and certain iPhoto 09 features such as publishing images direct to Facebook and integration with places and at present Safari 4.0.1 is only available via Software Update.

Another update is also available as Apple has posted Bluetooth Firmware update 2.0 which delivers several bug fixes and mainly targets compatibility with Wireless Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard and certain Macs, although only Macs with a Broadcom Bluetooth chipset will gain 2.0 and installing Bluetooth Firmware update 2.0 needs Mac OS X 10.57 or higher.

iPhone 3.0 tethering is available right now but at a cost from O2, if you did not know about the charges let us explain.

Tethering is available but it includes expensive bolt-on data packages, the all new iPhone OS 3.0 has taken the world by storm and still many of you are trying to download it, some of you are having trouble sending MMS messages (We explain about MMS here).

o2_tethering_setup

Tethering is not yet available with US iPhone carrier AT&T and will not be available for quite a while, however O2 has made it available but with charges. O2 will not be including internet tethering as part of the iPhone’s ‘unlimited’ data package but when setting up the function all iPhone users will be told to sign up to expensive bolt-on data packages.

Package Prices: For £14.68 you will get 3GB a month, £29.36 will give you 10GB, oh and you must be warned that there is a massive ‘excessive usage’ policy attached.

Yesterday the iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade went live, and the guys over at pcworld spend some time playing with the new Apple OS, and have come up with a type of wish list for the next generation iPhone OS, iPhone OS 4.0.

Firstly there is photos and the ability to share via MobileMe and email, but what about other image sharing outlets such as Flickr. Then there is photo editing, in iPhone 4.0 there is a need for some basic photo editing tools with something like swipe to undo, hit a button to crop, and maybe pinch to select.

While iPhone OS 3.0 delivers notifications and is a step in the right direction how about true background notifications like the Palm Pre in iPhone 4.0?

Spotlight in iPhone OS 3.0 is great at locating contact and applications quickly, so how about iPhone 4.0 expanding that idea to the web. The Palm Pre already does this enabling a user to search via Twitter, Wikipedia, Google and Google Maps.

Next, iPhone OS 4.0 needs to deliver more Swipe gestures, gestures which could delete voice mails on the fly via the visual voicemail system or remove entries from the user?s recents list, a small thing but it would be an improvement.

And how about the addition of the Terrain View in Google Maps, there?s no support for this in iPhone OS 3.0 so how about placing it in iPhone 4.0.

Next, iPhone 4.0 needs to bring customised wallpaper to the iPhone home screen enabling that special image you?ve captured to stay on the home screen rather than having to constantly put up with black while your image is shown briefly on the slide to unlock screen.

iPhone OS 4.0 also needs to bring a unified file browser for browsing downloaded files and images and the like and then accessing those files on your iPhone. Then there is email, the ability to be able to check all your email in a unified inbox all at once would be an added bonus.

So there are just a few wishes for the next iPhone OS, what would you wish for?

Video: iPhone 3G S against Nokia N97 Comparison

by Techno Witch on June 18, 2009

We have here an imaginative video that uses some jiggerypokery to feature the BBC?s Rory Cellan-Jones as a clone as he compares the iPhone 3G S against the Nokia N97.

The video does give a good comparison between the two smartphones, and what both the iPhone 3G S and Nokia N97 has to offer. No doubt we will be seeing quite a bit of comparison between these two giants of the smartphone arena in the days to come.

The iPhone 3G S/Nokia N97 battle has begun, so hit up the video below and enjoy the comparison, maybe it will make you decide.

Right let us explain a few things about the all new iPhone 3.0 MMS, the new iPhone OS 3.0 software will indeed allow you to send text messages, contacts, photos, sound files and location info with the new MMS messages, but some of you will have to sit back and wait patiently.

2G Users: You cannot send picture messages even with the new iPhone 3.0, you can however text ‘MMS’ free to 1010 after you’ve installed it and when someone does send you a picture message O2 will send you a link so you can see it.

Those of you on Pay Monthly or a Business tariff after you have downloaded the new 3.0 software and try to send a picture within your message some of you may come across a sending error, do NOT worry because O2 will set-up the picture messaging for you, you will be sent a message from ?1010? saying ?Welcome MMS? and you will be ready to go.

If your picture has not arrived just simply text ‘MMS’ free to 1010 and O2 will try again, just so you know you can use your text bundle to send picture messages in the UK and abroad; one picture message will equal four normal texts so be aware, if you do not have bundle texts left they will cost you 24.47p a message (21.28p excluding VAT).

Pay & Go Customers: After downloading the new iPhone OS 3.0 software, text ‘MMS’ free to 1010 and O2 will set up picture messaging for you. When it’s ready, they will send you an MMS. Picture messages cost 25p each; you can however buy a bundle with our Messaging Bolt Ons like Messaging 50 gives you 50 texts for £3.99 a month.

So once again be patient because the new MMS messages will work, just wait for the text to come form 1010.

The guys over at Cnet have got hold of an Apple iPhone 3G S handset and have given their thoughts on the new smartphone including a video which you can view below.

On the good side they say the iPhone 3G S does add some common mobile phone features such as video recording, voice dialling, and multimedia messaging, while running faster and promises a longer battery life.

But it?s not all good as the call quality on the iPhone 3G S shows no improvement while 3G reception is still uneven, and the smartphone still lacks multitasking, USB transfer and storage and of course Flash Lite. Hit up the video below and enjoy.
