2009 Battle: New iPhone 3GS vs Nokia N97

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

As we know, the new iPhone 3G S will be with us shortly, but Nokia has recently launched the Nokia N97 smartphone, which could well be an iPhone challenger.

The examiner takes a look at some facts which may place the Nokia N97 as a contender against the iPhone 3G S?Nokia owns Symbian which has the largest share of the mobile operating system market at 36%. Symbian shipments were 18 million in Q1 of 09.

The Nokia N97 features live video streaming whereas the iPhone doesn?t even have built in flash yet. Although when it comes to mobile applications then the iPhone does slap Nokia hard.

There is a video available to view by following the link. Personally I think the Nokia N97 is a cool handset but then so is the iPhone 3G S, so let battle commence.

New iPhone 3GS Vs iPhone 3.0: Phone or Software?

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

Yes we have the iPhone 3G S hardware on its way, and we also have the iPhone 3.0 software on its way, but which is more important, could iPhone OS 3.0 been enough without Apple delivering iPhone 3G S?

iPhone OS 3.0 offers much not only to the iPhone 3G S but also upgrading the iPhone 3G, whereas the iPhone 3G S without iPhone OS 3.0 would be a stand alone smartphone but would offer less.

Basically anyone and everyone will no doubt download iPhone OS 3.0 unless you wish to jailbreak your handset of course. But would the iPhone 3G S be as popular if iPhone OS 3.0 wasn?t coming out, after all it does bring that much sort after cut/copy & paste.

So readers, your views?Phone or Software?

James.

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

So once you have your new shiny Apple iPhone 3G S smartphone in your paws you may want to know just how to make conference calls, which allows the iPhoner to talk to more than a single caller at a time and merge up to 5 calls depending on your carrier of course.

Well Apple has given the details on the how to make a conference call on the iPhone 3G S and it does like this?

Start a call, tap add call and then make another call while the 1st call is placed on hold, next tap merge calls and the calls are merged onto a single line, and then you can add extra calls up to a maximum of 5 callers. Simple really isn?t it.

There?s more though, to chat private within a conference call simple tap Private next to a call, and to add an incoming call tap hold call plus answer and then merge calls.

New iPhone 3.0: How to Force Quit

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

There may be a time when you need to ?force quit? an application on the iPhone, this was achieved in iPhone 1x and iPhone 2x by holding down the Home button to ?force quit? and were returned to the home screen.

With iPhone OS 3.0 that doesn?t work due to holding down the Home button activating Voice Control on the new iPhone 3G S states theiphoneblog.

So to ?force quit? an application in iPhone 3.0 the user will need to hold the sleep/wake button until the slide to power off screen shows up, next press and hold the home button until the app quits, and job done.

iPhone 3G S pre-order supply already out

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

There has been some moaning about AT&T and the new iPhone 3G S over pricing, but that doesn?t seem to have stopped people from pre-ordering the new Apple iPhone 3G S.

It has only been a few days since the iPhone 3G S was unveiled and already AT&T has managed to sell every iPhone 3G S they had stored for pre-orders claims an article on theiphoneblog.

Selling every iPhone 3G S available on pre-order means anyone who pre-orders as of now will have to wait a further 2 week passed the announced availability date to gain their iPhone 3G S.

It would be interesting to know just how many AT&T had put aside for pre-order, anyone know?

Sim Zero £0 Contract being introduced by 3?

by Techno Witch on June 15, 2009

Available from the 17th of July, 3 is to launch Sim Zero £0 per month contract, which according to a post on t3, ?Sim Zero genuinely offers you something for nothing.?

Which puts in mind the old saying?you get nothing for nothing?so basically you don?t get free calling or free texting, but you do get free Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messaging.

So basically 3 makes money off the other stuff they know you are going to use, such as standard calls at 20p per minute, 10p per text, and 30p per MB of data other than Skype of course. 3 also recommends you use the Sim Zero sim in a 3 handset such as the INQ1 or Skypephone S2 which will cost an additional £69.99.
