Palm Pre: New long code for email landscape mode

by Techno Witch on July 10, 2009

Palm Pre have buried the developer mode, a mode the average person will never need behind the throwback Konami code, but why hide useful stuff ?

If you enter RocknRollHax on your keyboard (using caps) while in your email application, this will enable you to email in the landscape mode, we found this via engadget. It is thought Palm Pre hid this from the end users as they thought it was maybe too weird for your average user.

The only problem if you really want this is, you need to enter the code every time you want to use it. The plus is you will not have to root to get it. Try it out and let us know what you think and how easy it was to use.

A survey was hosted by Best Buy Mobile which shows that half of the people who have a smartphone do not understand them.

Do you understand your smartphone? Well, 47 percent of people with a smartphone said it confuses the heck out of them, whereas 60 percent of those aged between 35?49 feel people with smartphones spend too much time working and not enough time playing.

This does not stop the 1,000 people surveyed from wanting a handset with brains and access to the sort of applications you can?t get on dumbphones. Nine percent of men said playing games was very important, whereas 14 percent of women said the same, no indication as to whether people enjoy paying too much for texting and signing their lives away on long contracts though. Please vote on our poll below as we would love to know what you think

Sorry for the title readers but this one is a valid point, well according to UK managing director of Nokia Mark Loughran he thinks that the Nokia N97 will beat the Apple iPhone 3GS.

He says that the iPhone 3GS is a disappointment to many and that the Nokia N97 has better features such as the camera, the iPhone went from a 2MP camera to a 3.2 megapixel camera which is still low according to Mark Loughran, ownership costs are high with the 3GS.

Right what we hear at Phones Review know so far: Yes the iPhone 3GS does have a lower megapixel camera that the Nokia?s N97 which boasts a 5-megapixel, but to tell you the truth the Nokia N97 camera is still pretty poor in low light conditions. The N97 is still not what you call cheap at £529.95 on Pay as you go, the iPhone 3GS is £440.40 for the 16GB and £538.30 for the 32GB at The Carphone Warehouse. On a personal view we say the iPhone 3GS seems to be the better phone, but if Nokia would like to send us the Nokia N97 we will give it our personal hands-on review. It is now 2009 and the Apple iPhone 3GS has been released, yet many people have called the lack of a physical keyboard a deal-breaker.

Steve Jobs prefaced his introduction at Macworld in 2007, by saying what was wrong with smartphones (the hardware keyboard). They do not go away when you don?t need them, they don?t change if you switch text entry to bitmap editing and if you come up with a good idea later, you can?t go back and add an extra button. The keyboard is a big factor for a lot of people, on the other hand the pain-in-the-fingers and arms they give you pretty much make people avoid them entirely, zero stress typing with the iPhone.

Most people can thumb type on the Apple iPhone just as well or even better than using the Blackberry or a slider-style keyboard like the G1. It is believed that Apple will never make an iPhone with a QWERTY keyboard and are not likely to suffer because of this. Over 40million iPhone and iPod touch software keyboard devices have been sold opening weekend alone, so I am sure you would agree it?s hard to argue the point. Please vote below

The Nokia N97 is a very much talked about smartphone and it seems there are still stock delays when it comes to T-Mobile, O2 and Orange.

Sales are picking up very well since its release two-weeks ago in Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and 3 stores, but T-Mobile and Orange are still waiting for the device, O2 will NOT be stocking the device. O2 are sticking with the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre which will keep them busy we are guessing.

Orange staff has been told according to Trading Markets that the Nokia N97 will not be stocked for another 3-weeks which is a long time, T-Mobile staff have been told that they will be getting stocks in two-weeks time.

The demand for the N97 is huge and these firms really need to be getting stock as soon as possibly whilst the buzz for these handsets are still high.

Many of you and of course our readers have mentioned the problems with overheating, the debate over the overheating issue with the white Apple iPhone 3GS is immense and many of us want to know what the problem is.

Well it seems the debate is over, many users of the iPhone 3GS blamed the case discoloration on overheating and that it got a lot worse when Apple updated the heat advisory for the iPhone 3GS, well now Apple are saying that the discoloration is nothing to do with overheating but down to the case itself.

A French website called FrenchiPhone.com is claiming that the discoloration happens on the white iPhone 3GS when it is exposed to heat, here are some answers according to CNET that may help you understand:

  • After numerous calls to Apple technical service and maintenance of contact with a level 3 (engineer) the problem seems to come not from a hot 3GS but contact with some covers! This was evident by ourselves on a device with a small sticker (a warning not to listen to music too loud) remained stuck; part of the hull below remained white.
  • A simple solution to the problem is to clean the back of the iPhone with alcohol, tested by myself I can confirm that it works and reassure you it is safe for your precious.

What do you think about the above problem?
