Boxee Unveils The Boxee Box

boxee-box-d-linkAt the Boxee Beta Unveiling event in Brooklyn, Boxee revealed that D-Link has been named first choice as the hardware partner to release a Boxee Box – Boxee branded set-top box.

The device brings HDMI-support, WiFi, Ethernet, an SD card slot and two USB 2.0 ports. It also comes with optical audio, RCA audio and RF remote and plays any non-DRM media.

IFA 2009: Philips Launches Wireless HDTV Link

Today at IFA 2009, Philips presented Wireless HDTV Link that allows to connect TV to set top box and AV components without any cable.

Wireless HDTV Link transmits 1080p/30 HD signal up to 20 meters, making it possible e.g. to stream devices like a Blu-ray player to a TV from the other side of the room.

First Portable 3D Monitor for Viewing Without Glasses

The Swiss brand nvp3D introduced the FreeD Multi-Media Player ? the first portable autonomous 3D monitor for viewing without glasses.

The device is autonomous, that means there is no need of a computer connection to view. The content ? videos and photos – is displaying on 7-inch monitor from the SD card. Autonomy of the player is limited by the battery to approx. 2 hours.

Despite a rapid rise in the sales of consumer Blu-ray players, a fall in their prices and an increase in the number of high-definition movie titles, Blu-ray drives in PC systems have been left singing the blues, according to iSuppli.

iSuppli?s recent report says that by 2013, Blu-ray drives will be found in only 16.3 percent of PCs shipped, up from 3.6 percent in 2009.

Plasma and LCD TV Sales Increase in Q2 2009

Quixel Research?s newly launched report revealed that in Q2 2009 the Plasma TV was the only large screen TV category to show significant – up 31% in volume and 35% in value – growth quarter-to-quarter.

The harsh economic climate didn?t also slow LCDTV sales: the overall LCDTV market grew nine percent quarter-to-quarter and 22 percent year-to-year.

Surround 3-D TV to Take Over the Living Rooms

For the first time, a team of researchers at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), have designed a 9-panel, 3-D visualization display from HDTV LCD flat-screens developed by JVC.

The NexCAVE‘s technology delivers a faithful, deep 3-D experience with great color saturation, contrast and really good stereo separation – claim the scientists.
